Communications 101
Introduction to Communications for school leaders.
What does it mean to communicate? Who is our consumer? Why spend precious dollars on communicating? When is it appropriate to get a message out? Where will our message be? How do we fund our communications program?
This session will answer these basic questions . Participants will leave with a fuller understanding of the importance and value of effective communications. This knowledge will set the stage for additional workshops on strategy, tactics and research.

Strategy development for school leaders
Is your district communicating effectively? This workshop will help you to efficiently utilize your communications infrastructure and other resources to get your messages out. Learn to identify issues, set priorities, establish achievable goals, and allocate responsibilities.

It’s hard to share sometimes. But sharing failures as well as successes is the best way to establish the confidence you need to gain public support for your those financial or political requests that will enable you to fulfill your educational mission.

Introduction to research concepts and techniques.
Research is the most important step in the communications process. Understanding the perspectives, expectations and needs of parents, students, employees and the community has three important functions. Research informs the development of communications strategy, it helps school leaders establish relationships with various constituencies and it provides objective measures of the success or failure of strategies.
Not all research needs to be expensive and time consuming. Informal and formal, quantitative and qualittative, longitudinal and latitudinal methods will be discussed. Ideas for economical implementation will also be addressed.

Introduction to communications for teachers and staff.
This workshop covers many of the same topics as Communications 101, but from the perspective of the rank and file. Participants will leave with an understanding of their important role as ambassadors to the public.
